  • How I wish you were exist in real world (part 1)

Hello! Been a long time since my last post.

So, today I’m gonna do a little bit of fangirl-ing about the characters that I like from tv, movies, manga, or any other form of fiction that has character in it (you name it!).

This is something that actually I’ve been wanting to do, but I guess I’d have to wait until that moment of excitement pull through.

And because I am aware that this particular post might be a bit longer than usual, and I don’t want to burden my reader with confusion for mixing up which character belongs to which series / movies / etc, I decided to divide the post into several parts.

For part one, let me introduce you to……*tadaa* Eli Gold! From the series The Good Wife.

So this is him. All cool and composed. Yep, He is always contained in the entire series.

This is one of the promotional photo for the series. All the character is in it, including Mr.Eli Gold. It’s an awesome tv series, by the way. Very recommended.

The show, is basically a lawyer drama. You get it, the courtroom, the trials, etc. But, the thing about the show is, from the very beginning, you’d find a twist. Something to look forward to. And the characters are well crafted, like, really really well. The main character, Alicia Florrick, for example, she has already grabbed audience’s attention with her story, her sort of ‘disadvantage’ you may say (being the wife that got cheated on and all). And I promise you, you will, oh you WILL, feel the strong presence in her every move. I mean, she’s quite awesome, really.

Okay, we’re not here to discuss about the show, or about Alicia…yet. Let’s get back to our topic, shall we?

So Eli Gold character, played by the fierce Alan Cumming, has a pretty important role in Peter Florrick’s (Alicia’s husband) political campaign (Alicia’s husband is a politician by the way. A scandalous one, I might add). In short, Eli is Peter’s campaign manager.

In the series, he is infamous for his ambitious, “anything-goes” way on winning in the political battlefield. So, yeah, his character is cunning (no pun intended), sharp, clever, quick thinker, and has a lot of connection kind of guy.

Beside all that, He is also hilarious. Such a comedic relief to the show. Don’t get me started on quoting him. Here, you should see for yourself what’s he like on the show!

    “Jackie: Eli, are you good?

    Eli: Am I….good?

    Jackie: *nods*

    Eli: I’m the best, ma’am.”

Yes, he is awesome, just like that.

He also has quite the special / complicated relationship with Alicia. Alicia has such a strong personality that Eli (and half of the people on the show) found interesting. She doesn’t want to be involved in any way in her husband’s campaign, which left Eli a bit depressed, actually. At first, Eli was a bit resilient about the subject, but as the show goes on, the relationship between Eli and Alicia become ‘stronger’. And suprisingly, Eli really hits it off with Alicia. And they become fond of each other.

“Eli Gold: You know, you and I are going to be the best of friends, Mrs. Florrick. And you know why?

    Alicia: I have no idea.

Eli Gold: Because you’re cautious, and so am I.”

Another thing that attracts me most about Eli Gold, is when he showed his emotional side. I mean in a he-likes-a-girl kind of way. Why? because, it’s the rarest kind of emotion that Eli would showed. Eli is such a strict person, he’s commited to his job, and while I wouldn’t mind seeing him on his daily basis, but when he shows that kind of emotion, it’s really refreshing. Plus, it’s the cutest thing that you’d ever seen on screen! (Yeah, I know he’s kind of old, and while I wouldn’t normally go for way older men, I wouldn’t mind going out with Eli at all) :D

So, on season 2, Eli met this woman (which was way younger than he was, by the way), Natalie Flores. While he had ‘planned’ on meeting her, Eli took an unexpected turn when he saw her in person. Eli found that Natalie was really smart, funny, and charming, and he likes her. The problem was Eli was sort of lied about his real intention when he first introduced himself to Natalie. Plus, she already have a boyfriend, a french-canadian-contortionist that had just joined cirque du soleil (which Natalie and Eli laughed at, by the way).

To see all the video recap on their relationship, just click here and here.

So, this is Natalie Flores, Eli’s (brief) love interest. Played by the lovely Ms.America Ferrera!

I can always feel their sexual tension! Huzzah! I really want them to be an item, well, maybe another time.

Eli Gold might be a strict, straight, Texas born, jewish politician. But it’s the other way around with the man behind the character, Alan Cumming. He’s not into politics at all, neither strict nor straight. Yep, Alan is gay and he sings in Broadway too. And here’s what he’s got to say about playing the role of Eli Gold,

“On The Good Wife, I do feel like I’m playing in drag,” he admits in the current issue of TV Guide. “Every time I wrap for the day, I muss my hair up and put my tie around my head. It’s become this little ritual to de-Eli myself,” he says, adding, “but I really do like him.”

And the funniest thing that I found was, he doesn’t even have the same voice as Eli! When he is himself, you could immediately tells the difference between his Eli voice and his real voice (Eli’s voice was all composed and American, meanwhile the real Alan is from Scotland, so that makes his real voice very..Scotland-ish). Hear it here. How fascinating! Brava, Mr.Cumming!

Here’s Mr.Alan Cumming, hosting a Glaad (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) event.

You wouldn’t believe that this is Eli Gold! I salute you for your amazing performance on The Good Wife, Cap’n!

In conclusion, I’d give Eli Gold about 8.5 point from 10 point! (It’s an A, by the way). I’d love to see him some more in the next seasons! And I do hope that his path would cross again with Natalie somehow. Please, writers, be good to us.

Well, that’s it about Eli Gold from me! Hope you’ve all enjoyed and feel the same excitement about the character as much as I do! I’ll post some more of my favorite character later. Thank you.
